The collaboration between Kevin Durant and Kay Yow Cancer Fund for KD line begins in 2012 with KD4. This KD 12 is the nine edition of such collaboration to remember Pearl’s influence in his life and the special bond with his late Aunt Pearl who died from lung cancer in 2000. This has now becoming an annual tradition in the line. This edition is further immortalized by pulling the details from earlier KD Aunt Pearl colorways and incorporating them into it. - The sock liner graphic is inspired from the KD5
- The medial heel graphic is inspired from the KD6
- The strap is inspired from the KD7
- The lateral heel graphic is inspired from the KD8
- The heel embroidery is inspired from the KD9
- The material on the tongue, collar and Nike Swoosh is inspired from the KD10
- The outsole marbling is inspired from the KD11
